Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director Says: The Internet is quickly becoming the consumer's preferred source for information

See why creating a positive environment for employees is integral for success

Suzi Weiss-Fischmann

I always say that the simple act of applying color to your nails can instantly boost your mood. Wearing a color like "I'm Not Really a Waitress" can make a woman feel better about herself, which I think is essential, especially during these hard times. And although times are tough, it is actually an opportunity for us at OPI, much like it was when we started the company in the early 80s. OPI was conceived during a rocky economy, but that didn't stop our business from prospering.

From a company that has its roots in the dental industry, we have come a long way in establishing ourselves as a leader in nail care, and an innovator in nail color. Our nail lacquers have not only become a vital part of our success, they have become integral in the world of fashion.

I think the beauty industry as a whole will begin taking on a larger role in everyday fashion and in the media. For the most part, beauty has been inspired by fashion trends, but I think we'll start to see a role reversal where fashion will begin to use beauty products, makeup trends and colors as its muse for collections. For this reason, we at OPI continually strive to push the envelope by creating high-quality products and colors that are fun, innovative, and inspiring.

This upbeat vibe is something that starts in the workplace and ultimately materializes into our products. Creating a positive environment for our employees is important, especially during difficult times. We offer incentives for employees and even encourage their families to participate in contests like our annual computer giveaway. Things of this nature boost team morale, and after all, success and creativity cannot thrive in a low-spirited environment.

The media also has played a large role in our success, especially the Internet. It is quickly becoming the consumer's preferred source for information, and it has become a valuable tool in boosting not only our business, but also the entire beauty industry. It has helped give the beauty business a voice, expanding consumer reach to a fresh demographic. Years ago, I barely knew what the Internet was! Now I have my own blog and use the Internet as a tool to instantly communicate with fans and keep them up-to-date on our newest product launches and nail trends.

Our company has continued to thrive because we provide consumers with the finest products in their class, thanks to dedicated employees and the inherent creativity that runs through OPI's veins. When we create products, we make sure there is something to suit every woman and every lifestyle. Everyone from the woman on the street, to the high fashion celebrity, to my mother and teenage daughter has helped inspire me and will continue to inspire me everyday, always.

appening today. Things are really tough, but it's all about looking at the bright side. If I can put a smirk on someone's face, make someone happy for a split second, it's all worth it. We all say "life is short" but dismiss it because it's so cliche, but really, it's so true.
